33110- WordPress I: Planning and Launching Your Website
WordPress is a state-of-the-art, free publishing platform, used by over 25 million people to build web and blogging sites. In this hands-on beginners course, you will plan, build, and launch your own website. You’ll learn how to: navigate the WordPress dashboard and admin. panel, create pages and posts, choose your theme (free vs. paid), and organize your content. Bring your personal email address and password to access your email account and a general idea of the name and content you’d like for your website or blog. Course materials, handouts, and WiFi internet access are provided. Bring your own laptop or use our classroom desktop PCs.
33111- WordPress II: Widgets, Plugins, and Themes
Now that you have built your basic WordPress website, it is time to make it “shine” and add some more functionality. This hands-on intermediate course will cover some of the most commonly used plugins, finalize your theme (free vs. paid), add more pages and posts, create a photo gallery, add videos and links, how to build your audience and interact with your followers using social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.). In addition, we will discuss best practices for security, preparing your site for SEO, and backup and recovery plugins.
INTERMEDIATE COMPUTER and INTERNET SKILLS
Students will review basic computer skills, and learn more advanced word processing, creating documents and folders, adding in photos, tables, charts and learning to create slide show presentations. You will also learn how to manage your contacts and use the calendar too. We will also explore social media on the Web and discuss the Top Ten best Apps and games, and more! The course is taught in a computer lab with PCs, using Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2010.
